Immigration reform on the horizon?

Through this article, it’s evident that the Democratic Party is already hard at work crafting their message for an imminent push toward immigration reform.  According to the article’s author, Julia Preston, the White House is working to construct a plan for immigration reform that contrasts the effort by the former Bush administration in 2007.

During the current economic recession, it is important for reform pushers to highlight the message that this change in immigration policy will benefit the economy without becoming a detriment to job availability for current citizens.  Continuing the message of “change” utilized in masse by the Democratic Party, Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano emphasized in her recent speech that “the Obama administration [has] achieved a ‘fundamental change’ in border security and enforcement.”

People want to know how this reform will benefit them, their country, and the current economic situation.  Show people why this is an important issue, why we need reform, and how such reform will be beneficial in contrast to the current policy. It’s up to the White House and its media machine to prove to the members of Congress and the people of the United States that this new reform is both a viable and prudent form of action.

Crafting a successful message and suppressing the opposition will both prove essential to fulfilling the prophecy of comprehensive immigration reform.

Will the White House succeed?  Only time will tell…

Until next time,

Austin Ellington
